Hello- Welcome to my Homepage!

"If music be the food of love, play on" William Shakespeare

Hello, Welcome to my website!  I have been teaching music for approximately 18 years. I started my career in NC, then moved to Atlanta, then Jacksonville.  After Jacksonville, I taught at Glyndale Elementary School before coming to Risley Middle. This is my second year here.  I have also taught Music Appreciation at the college level, which is similar to our General Music course here at Risley! I look forward to working with all of my enrolled students and their parents this year!

Lesson Plans, Activities, and Assignments will be posted daily on Google Classroom and on this website calendar. Please have your child check these two sites before asking about missed assignments due to absences.

An Overview of Each Course
Chorus students will learn music theory, music notation, sight reading, sight-singing.  Students will participate in 2 and 3 part songs, canons and rounds, vocal warm-ups, and various school appropriate repertoire. It is a year long commitment, unless the student feels it is not the right fit for them and their schedule can be changed. Chorus students are required to participate in two concerts a year: one in December and one in May.  There will be a limited number of practices after school each semester to prepare for the concert, with the majority of practice happening during the school day. (Because we practice mostly during the day-Chorus should not interfere with sports).  If your child is interested in participating in chorus, and he or she likes to sing, have them come see me sign up.(Room 510, next to the Boys and Girls Club) No prior experience or audition is required. We are always looking for new friends to join us! We have a fabulous group of students that are supportive and encouraging, and want to see you expand your vocal talent!

General Music students will study ukulele and different styles of music.  Sixth grade students will take Beginning Ukulele. Seventh and Eighth grade students begin a more advanced approach to ukulele with no prior experience required. This class only lasts for nine weeks. Some learning may also include music theory, music history, notation projects, and other presentation projects. The overall goal of this class is for students to become proficient on an instrument and develop an appreciation of different styles of music they may or may not listen to on a daily basis. Students will need a 3 prong pocket folder for this class to keep their work in, plus notebook paper.

Please check the Class Syllabus on this website for more information.  Please contact me at my information below, if I can be of any help to you or your child, or answer any questions you may have!
