Medication In The School
According to Glynn County Board of Education policy, specific procedures must be followed for medications to be administered in school.
Before any prescription medication may be administered in school, the parent must provide the school with 1) a completed Physician Authorization for Medication Administration form*, and 2) a completed Parental Authorization for Medication Administration form.
* Please note - the Physician Authorization for Medication Administration MUST be picked up from the Nurse's office because it is a carbon copy that cannot be linked to the website.
Any time there is a change in the prescribed medication, the parent must notify the school, update the forms listed above and provide a prescription bottle labeled to correspond to the new medication order.
All medications must be brought to school in the original labeled bottle from the pharmacy.
The label must clearly state the name of the student and the current health provider's order, including the name of the medication, dosage, administration time, name of physician, and expiration date.
Parents must provide over the counter medications in the original labeled bottle and complete a Parental Authorization for Medication Administration form.
All medication should be taken to the nurse's office in the original prescription container with the most recent date and latest instructions.
Any medication remaining at the end of the last day of in- person instruction will disposed by the school system.
Illness
Please help control exposure to illness in school, prevent the spread of disease and reduce the number of absences due to illness.
DO NOT send your child to school if he or she:
In case of illness or accident during the school day, the nurse will use professional judgment to determine whether or not the student should be transported to the local hospital emergency room for care. If a student is transported, the student's parents will be called from the emergency room. If the student does not require transport, the parents will be called from the school to pick up the student for medical care.
Other Important Information
Scoliosis screenings are conducted at the middle school level for sixth and eighth grade students. Any parents not wishing for their child to be checked must notify the child's school.
Immunization Requirement
Up to date immunization records are required as part of enrollment in GCSS. Most student's immunization records expire the summer prior to their 7th grade year. A MCV4 and booster TdaP is required for 7th grade. There are some student's records that expire prior to their 6th grade year due to their age. Please be on the look out during your student's 6th grade spring semester for immunization record notifications. If you have already received a notification from your student's previous school nurse, please make an appointment with your provider or the Glynn Co. Health Department @ 912-264-3961.
Please make sure that your contact information is UP TO DATE in the Infinite Campus system. You can check by logging into your parent portal or your student's portal.

Glynn Co. Health Dept. Offers Walk-In Service for School Vaccinations & Screenings

The Glynn County Health Department is offering walk-in service for children and teens who need vaccinations and screenings for the upcoming school year. Students entering kindergarten, 7th grade, and 11th grade must meet vaccination requirements or they can be denied school entry.
“Every year, in late July, August, and September, we get more requests for back-to-school appointments than we have spots available in the clinic,” said Adam Sanchez, Nurse Manager of the Glynn County Health Department. “That’s stressful for parents who need the services so their children can go to school. We hope parents will take advantage of the walk-in service now so we can avoid the back-to-school rush.”
All students entering kindergarten, or entering a Georgia school for the first time, must have proof of vaccinations and must complete a vision, hearing, dental, and nutrition screening.
Students entering 7th grade need a Tdap booster and a meningitis vaccine. Students entering 11th grade need a meningitis booster for school attendance.
Immunizations and screenings are available without an appointment during regular clinic hours, including after the school and work day on Thursdays. The clinic is open:
- Monday-Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Closed for lunch from 12-1 p.m.
- Thursday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Closed for lunch from 12-1 p.m.
- Friday, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- The clinic is closed on the last business day of each month for inventory.
A parent or guardian must accompany the child to the clinic. Most insurance will be accepted, and a nominal administration fee will be charged for those without insurance. If parents have questions about vaccine requirements and eligibility, they can call the Glynn County Health Department at (912) 264-3961.

El Departamento de Salud del Condado de Glynn ofrece un servicio sin cita para niños y adolescentes que necesitan vacunas y exámenes para el próximo año escolar. Los estudiantes que ingresan a jardín de infantes, grado 7 y grado 11 deben cumplir con los requisitos de vacunación o se les puede negar la entrada a la escuela.
“Cada año, a fines de julio, agosto y septiembre, recibimos más solicitudes de citas para el regreso a clases que lugares disponibles en la clínica”, dijo Adam Sanchez, Gerente de Enfermería del Departamento de Salud del Condado de Glynn. “Eso es estresante para los padres que necesitan los servicios para que sus hijos puedan ir a la escuela. Esperamos que los padres aprovechen el servicio sin cita ahora para que podamos evitar la prisa por el regreso a clases”.
Todos los estudiantes que ingresan al jardín de infantes o que ingresan a una escuela de Georgia por primera vez deben tener un comprobante de vacunación y deben completar un examen de la vista, audición, dental y de nutrición.
Los estudiantes que ingresan al 7º grado necesitan un refuerzo de Tdap y una vacuna contra la meningitis. Los estudiantes que ingresan al grado 11 necesitan un refuerzo de meningitis para asistir a la escuela.
Las vacunas y los exámenes de detección están disponibles sin cita previa durante el horario regular de la clínica, incluso después de la escuela y el día laboral los jueves. La clínica está abierta:
- Lunes a miércoles, de 8 a. m. a 5 p. m. Cerrado para el almuerzo de 12 a 1 p. m.
- Jueves, 8 am – 7 pm Cerrado para el almuerzo de 12 a 1 p. m.
- Viernes, 8 am – 2 pm
- La clínica está cerrada el último día hábil de cada mes por inventario.
Un padre o tutor debe acompañar al niño a la clínica. Se aceptará la mayoría de los seguros y se cobrará una tarifa de administración nominal para aquellos que no tengan seguro.
