Yesterday, students also read a narrative mentor text "The Three Century Woman" by Richard Peck (it's been a while since we have studied specifically narrative techniques)..  Students then wrote their first podcast flash draft on lined paper.  7th block had enough time to switch papers, read, and give feedback.  On Wednesday, students will work with a partner to write a 2nd podcast flash draft - this can be a completely different topic, or a sequel to the first podcast).  Any student who would rather write along may. do so.  Students will switch their papers and give feedback.  Then, students will use a podcast graphic organizer to further develop and research at least one of the flash drafts.

Hi!  Today we are doing IXL the way that we have done it previously in class - Skill Plan - do 3, 10 questions each.  Then, students will choose a TeenBiz and will complete the Thought Question - I will give an example in class.  My 6th block will do this in a more structured manner and will copy the example, underline the different parts with different colors, and will then type their answer.

The most important thing for today's lesson is to think and write thoughtfully about the characters, setting, plot events, figurative language, and any other details about the story.  Then write thoughtfully about how these help to develop the author's intended message, the theme.


I included some ppts from our Workshops to help you think about theme and decide how to frame your writing.  I will also post examples of written answers later today, in case that helps.

Hello!  Yesterday, we did the Daily 5, then the song/themes, and then started deconstructing "All Summer in a Day" with annotations.


Today, students will work on the journal - and will do a little more - they will write most of the class but will also work with partners throughout.  I made another video for today that explains more.

The Bill of Rights were laws added to the constitution.  They gave all the people in the country certain rights.  The government can’t just do what they want.  In countries with kings and queens, and dictators, those rulers would just do what they want.  The Bill of Rights is important because it gives the American people certain rights.  The government has limits.
